Glass, hand painted, size between 4-14 cm

These Christmas ornaments were made during the Soviet time in Ukraine. From 1928 until 1935 Christmas was officially prohibited in the Soviet Union. They replaced the religious holiday with a new year celebration. The Christmas tree returned as a „New Year’s tree” (yolka) with blinky, funny ornaments. No more angels, shepherd’s and other religious symbols, instead glass toys like clocks, cucumbers, lamp shades or cosmonauts. From today’s perspective very modern.

The ornaments are usually sold individually or as small groups and the perfect Christmas gift. Recommended retail price between 20-45 Euro per piece.
